iPhone screen replacement

Cracked glass, a line that will not go away, a black stain that keeps growing, or a screen that taps by itself. Most iPhone screens are replaced the same day when the part is on the shelf — and you know exactly what kind of screen you are getting before we start.

Before you come

  1. Back up if touch still works — iCloud or a computer.
  2. Find your model: Settings → General → About → Model Name.
  3. Note what works now — Face ID, the earpiece, auto-brightness — so you can compare after.

What you see → what is broken

Is it the screen?

Front glass

Cracked glass, picture still perfect

The glass is bonded to the display, so even a glass-only crack is fixed by replacing the whole display assembly.

Display panel

A green, pink or white line that will not go away

Common on OLED iPhones after a drop or pressure. It does not heal and often spreads.

Display panel

A black blot or bleeding ink stain that grows

The OLED panel is damaged under the glass. Back up soon: these can take over the whole screen.

Touch layer

Dead zones, or taps registering by themselves

Ghost touches can open apps or type on their own. Take off the case and screen protector first to rule them out.

Display or its connection

Screen dark but the phone rings and vibrates

Often the display; sometimes its connector after a hard drop. Diagnosed before you are quoted.

Two technologies

Which screen does your iPhone have?

The panel type explains the symptoms. LCD screens crack and stop responding; OLED screens are more likely to show coloured lines and black stains that spread under the glass.

The question to ask any repair shop

Genuine, used or unknown: what your iPhone will say

iPhone 11 and later (except the SE) keep a record of repaired parts in Settings → General → About → Parts and Service History. Here is what each label means, using Apple’s own definitions.

Genuine

A new Apple display, finished with Repair Assistant

Until the repair is completed in Repair Assistant (iOS 18 and later) the display shows Finish Repair. Completing it installs the calibration data, so features like True Tone work as Apple intends.

Used

A genuine display that came from another iPhone

Shown on iPhone 15 and later with iOS 18 and later. Apple notes that a previously used part can work in another iPhone, but its performance and quality may be less consistent.

Unknown

Not genuine, not verified, or not working as expected

Apple lists what can go wrong with non-genuine displays: Multi-Touch that misses or misplaces touches, True Tone and auto-brightness not working properly, colours too yellow or too blue, lower maximum brightness, uneven brightness, and extra battery drain.

Our answer, before you agree: which kind of screen we are fitting for your model, how it will show up in Parts and Service History, and what that means for True Tone and resale. If a shop will not tell you, ask somewhere else.

Face ID, earpiece, sensors

What else lives at the top of the screen

The Face ID camera system is paired to your iPhone at the factory and is not part of the display — it stays in your phone. But the earpiece speaker and the sensors that dim the screen during calls and adjust brightness sit right along the top edge, and some of them are moved across to the new screen.

That is the delicate part of the job, and it is why the first things to test after any screen repair are:

  • Face ID — lock the phone and unlock it with your face;
  • the earpiece — make a call;
  • the proximity sensor — the screen should go dark when you hold the phone to your ear;
  • auto-brightness and True Tone — in Settings → Display & Brightness;
  • touch to every edge — drag an app icon slowly into each corner.

Our after-repair checklist has the full list, for every kind of repair.

iPhone screen replacement

Questions

Can you replace just the cracked glass on an iPhone?

On an iPhone the glass, the touch layer and the display are bonded together into one assembly, so the normal repair is to replace that whole display assembly. That is also why a cracked-but-working screen costs the same to fix as a black one.

Will I lose my photos or data?

No. A screen replacement does not touch your storage. If the touch screen still responds, back up to iCloud or a computer before you come anyway — it is good practice before any repair.

How long does an iPhone screen replacement take?

Common models are usually done the same day when the screen is in stock. Call with your model — Settings → General → About → Model Name — and we will check before you travel.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the model and on which kind of screen is fitted, and part prices change often, so we quote by phone or at the counter. You hear the price before any work starts.

My iPhone says “Unknown Part” after a screen repair. Is it broken?

Not necessarily. Apple shows Unknown when a display is not a genuine Apple part, has not been verified and linked to that iPhone, is not working as expected, or has been modified. Apple says these messages do not affect your ability to use the iPhone, though an Unknown part might affect its trade-in value.

Will my iPhone still be water-resistant?

Treat any opened phone as less water-resistant than a new one. A proper screen repair puts a new adhesive seal in place, but Apple itself says water resistance is not permanent and decreases with normal wear.
